Dimpy Bhalotia Silhouettes

About
Silhouettes and Movement
Her style is defined by silhouettes and bursts of movement wanting her audience to feel the moment rather than study it. Black and white has the potential to capture the movement in its truest form.
Technique
She travels the world trying to capture the unpredictable, lending visuals and emotional excitement in her photographs. The main reason Bhalotia shoots in black and white is she feels it gives off a more powerful message. She prefers her audience to focus on the frame rather than the colors. She works with both a camera and phone but chose to work with a phone instead. She feels trying to get all the settings right on a camera can be physically and mentally tiring. She carries an iPhone around and has been using it for street photography. Carrying a big camera and all the necessary equipment is something Bhalotia doesn’t want to worry about. Shooting on an iPhone, it lets her focus on what’s going on rather than concentrating on the technicality of the camera.
Bhalotia acknowledges that she can’t shoot after sunset because phone cameras can’t handle low light and at times the lenses can’t achieve the appropriate focal length. So, when she is out, she looks to see how cloudy and bright it is that day. It is perfect timing and being able to capture that moment that happens quickly. She is drawn to the burst of movements along with trying to achieve silhouettes. She likes capturing her subjects in action.
Equipment
She began photographing with a Samsung SGH-D500 in 2006, Nokia N95 in 2007 and then to the iPhone 4 and 5s from 2010 to all the generations of iPhone till date. She uses Leica cameras, iPhone, Nikon & variety of film cameras, One Plus, Xiaomi, Ricoh GR cameras and Go Pro for commissioned work. Dimpy is very well-versed with a variety of cameras.
